Play Review: Bo-Nita
Haven't updated for like what...6 days? wow...been quite busy.
yesterday was our last home
football game against garfield. we won 42-6.
uhh i cant believe thats it for football! so fast.
went to see the play
"Bo-Nita" by Elizabeth Heffron this afternoon at the
Seattle Repertory Theatre with C.L. it's for theatre class (of course).
so we got there at like 1:00ish cuz we went right after my TA shift at Chinese school. so then we bought
tickets, ($5 with Teentix!!) and CL bought some candy and we just sat, chilled, and talked for about a hour.
Below is a review...so just stop reading if ur not interested.
The theatre was medium sized i guess? idkk...this is my 2nd time seeing a play and the 1st one was 8 years ago so i dont know whats a "normal" size. ohh when i said theatre i meant like the stage and audience seats. the whole building, called Seattle Repertory Theatre is pretty huge.
okay, so our seats were at
row D seats 8&9 which were the orchestra section.
which really just means the most front part. like the pic above. sorry the pic is bad quality. ignore the yellow, brown, and gray colors. the 2 green dots are our seats.
so basically, we sat at the 4th row from the stage. there's 2 other section, one called the
loge and last one is the
balcony. people say the loge is the best seats of the theatre. it comes right after the orchestra section and it's a little elevated so ur head wont get tired from having to look up all the time. and then there's the balcony.
after a while my head did get kinda tired, but still, pretty good seats.
the whole play was brought out by
only 1 actress,
Hannah Mootz, playing
7 characters with no intermission, not changing sets, props, or clothing, and just straight talking for approx. 90 min.
wowww..that is A LOT of stuff to remember....she did a reallyy good job.
so when we entered the house, (seating area), Hannah was already in role. She was sitting kinda in a corner with her back leaned against the wall and she had a backpack and water bottle next to her. and she's reading a book and mouthing words. that was a cool part. its like the play hasn't even started yet shes already in character and ready to go. the book might actually be the script that she's reviewing...ever thought about that? haha, maybe not...
Okay, now the
actual story. It's about this 13 year old girl named Bo-Nita with a mom that brings home a lot of guys. Bo-Nita
beats up her mom's ex bf while he suffers from a heart attack and Bo-Nita and her mom has to like come up with a plan to try to stay out of
jail. While the main focus is on this, Bo-Nita also tells a series of flashbacks along the way.
So..I gotta admit. I chose the wrong play.
It did not suit us very well...like the intended audience wasn't for teens. It was more for like middle age or grandma grandpa age. Since majority of ppl that went were grandma, grandpas. There were stuff that I didn't understand that was suppose to be humorous.
so yeah...chose a wrong play. but i still enjoyed seeing it though. And I still understand the general idea without anyone having to explain to me so that's good.
the theme is
mature, and it does include all sort of
swear words and
sexual references.
Since Hannah was playing 7 characters at once, you really gotta focus. Or you'll get mixed up on who she is. Not saying she didn't make a
clear distinction between each character, it's just that she switch so fast that idkk...there was once or twice that i got kinda confused.
other than that, she did a good job portraying each character and her ability to switch between character so fast and so convincing...WOW...she's AWESOME.
she also sang twice in the play. the same song. but HOLY OMG...her
voice is sooo pretty. she could be a pro. singer. not kidding. its sooo pretty. anyways, the song is called
"Dreaming" by Blondie. its a 70s song (1979 to be more specific), and i like the cover by the actress better than the original. seriously...Hannah's voice is just soo beautiful.
ohh and she got a standing ovation from the audience at the end of the play(:
Would I recommend it? Umm Yeah, I'd definitely recommend it to people that's older. like middle age, grandparent age. especially grandparent age. if your in that age range then
DEFINITELY GO see it! cuz those ppl seemed to LOVE the play. if ur a teen then ehh....i doubt u'll like it. if your in ur 20's...hmm maybe..idkk..depend on ur taste i guess.
overall, really good acting. and although the play itself wasn't suitable for me, I really
loved the experience. Really enjoyed being there, and love the atmosphere :D
so...yeah I'll conclude my review here.
